It’s an easy five km to the border. The guard waves us across, letting us stop for water at their bathrooms. Then another twenty km to Eureka on easy paved roads. We make it in time for breakfast.

Keith and Leslie are as amazing as always, taking us in, feeding us and teaching us how to fix our bikes. Leslie rides around town with us, from breakfast spot to lunch spot to pretty views over the river. We spend our day off eating and people watching, and doing all the chores that come with being in town.

So Steve and I decide to ride our bikes for five thousand kilometres, with only my old school bike commuting in Alaska and two local 50k bike packing trips for experience.
